Miss Sophie Bricker.....The Eyes have it!

Sophie, The Whole World.  The Whole World, Sophie.  I think that it's important that we take this time to reflect on a couple points of fact.  #1  Sophie is as intelligent as she is gifted.  and #2 Since she is a native daughter of my mother land and the self proclaimed "Good Life" state of Nebraska, I feel like I should point out that she made it uncomfortably apparent what little effort that I put into my academics while in high school.  I mean holy crap between her and her sisters(whose senior pics I did two years ago) combined GPA's make my lifetime GPA  look like scratches on Andy Dufrenes cell wall before he learned how to manage pressure and time to escape Shawshank Prison.

Despite my extreme lack of brain straining effort during my High School years one things clear.  Sophie and I make a formidable team.  I met up with Sophie and her mom in Ashland, NE.  There's nothing quite like going to random feel good locations with clients who unload every ounce of trust in your abilities to come back with great portraits.

At the time of this blog I'm pretty sure Sophie is about half way to her end goal.  I can't thank her or her brilliant family The Strickers(POPPA Stricker thank you for you service to this country!)enough for letting me and Sophie do our thing.  Good luck girl and everyone else keep tunneling through Shawshank!

Ryan.....The Silent Type

Nebraska.....or as the sign reads that stands just across its border, "The Good Life".  I've always been gushing with cynicism so my opinions regarding that particular motto have been known to vary from time to time.  However I am happy to say that I'm almost 86% sure that at no point did those opinions ever reach and/or stay forever rooted in the negative.  Nebraska is my home and she holds some fond memories for me.

The reason I mention that glorious Nebraska motto has to deal with my homeboy/high school senior, Ryan and also the particular details that adorn his portraits.  If you've ever spent a significant amount of time in Nebraska you'll quickly learn that during different parts of the seasons there usually isn't a whole lot of scenery afforded.  Especially near or around my 4,000 population town of Aurora.  Some photographers might throw in the towel on this as a location choice.  Luckily for me my cynical nature and unwavering dedication to being the stubborn jackass that I am, I instead see it as a challenge.  A challenge to stretch the mind and the eyes to new ways of taking portraits or building upon past images.

Luckily for this particular set of images/challenges my subject Ryan, was the embodiment of all that is old school midwest.  He was calm, quiet and took directions very well.  Three character traits I thought had been immunized in the Millennial Generation.  I'm pretty sure I got about 6 words out of him over the entire shoot.  Side note : The lack of words spoken by Ryan is a direct result from myself and his mother gabbing like school girls for the almost 4 hours we were taking photos.  Though let me tell you thats roughly a third of the words my father has seemed to say in the almost 40 years I've been on this earth and if Ryan's calm and quiet demeanor lead him to be even half the man my father has been in my life then it'd be my distinct honor to work with Ryan when and wherever he needed.

Levi...........The Strauss costs Extra!

One of the perks of this glorious career of mine is that it leads back home to Nebraska a few times  a year to squeeze in the occasional senior portrait session between weddings and double fisting freshly grown corn on the cob and tomatoes from my mothers garden.

This laddie here is Levi.  The boy is immediately certified legit in my book because he is a wrestler at my old high school in Aurora, NE.  Well to be sure he is a great many other things but the proof is in the pudding folks!  Wrestlers are badasses! A massive wave of nostalgia washed over me as I  walked upstairs in my old gym, took off my shoes and dug my toes into the very mats that I once shed my fair share of blood, sweat and tears(no one ever actually cried we just had something in our eyes!).  Since my days they've made amazing additions to those hallowed halls.  I even noticed my name on the record boards.  Mad respect to all my brothers who dawn the head gear!

Despite my walk down glory days lane and the occasional Vision Quest theme song playing through my head Levi and I stayed the course and knocked out some fun images.  It's hard to roll an entire high school experience into a single portrait session but this kid is made of stern stuff and we captured those personas that mattered to him. Good Luck next year in college young man!

Fo' Shizzle Brechbizzle!

What can I say about the young and talented Cassidy Brechbill?  One thing is for sure the girl is almost completely water resistant.  I don't make it a point to shoot in the rain but in Cassidy's case we didn't have a choice.

I would imagine most professional models would've tucked tail and ran when it started to rain on their photo session once.  But twice?  Get the hell out of here!  That would be an almost certainty!  But alas these Midwest girls are tough and made of sterner stuff!  Corn and Omaha steaks I'm guessing.

In any event my tough girl gutted out not one but two senior portrait sessions in almost torrential downpours.  Neither of us are complaining though because the finished product was nothing short of spectacular!  Good luck in the future kid!  Now and again it will rain on your future plans but you're a badass.  You'll come out squeaky clean!

Twice the Titus!!!

Meet my pal Jaime.  I want you all to stop for a moment and recognize the second smartest, cutest and all around coolest human to ever represent the name Titus!

Miss Jaime doesn't have the luck to wear this name first like I do but it's an imperfect world folks. Even the Mona Lisa is falling apart.  Aside from that this kid is a special fixture in the Childers clan.  While I was back home I took her senior portraits under the watchful eye of her boyfriend, my nephew, Alex.

Jaime, you killed this photo shoot girl!  Keep smiling and be yourself.  If you follow these guidelines you might possibly take over the number 1 spot of smartest, cutest and all around coolest Titus to walk the earth!  Editors note...... I will not relinquish this title without a fight!

Friday Night Lights!

Grant Fox is rapidly becoming a legend at Aurora High School.  Is it because of his excellent skills on the football field?  His Wit, charm and overall pleasant demeanor?  Possibly.  The most likely scenario is that this kid is my second cousin.  Therefore he shares my blood.  Which in turn is the most likely reason of his rapidly approaching legendary status.  It's a hard legacy to leave my friend. But Heavy lies the crown as they say!

I'm only mostly joking.  The solid truth is that Grant is a great kid.  I'm proud to be related to him.  However all props go out to his parents for raising a fine young man.  They get the props for good parenting but Grant and I get the props for the bad ass photos!  BOOM!!  Take that y'all!
